More than thirty Chinese citizens are ready to sue Greece for the delay in obtaining a “golden visa”. Chinese investors have been waiting in line for more than 2 years, instead of the promised 2 months.

Initially, applicants applied to the state agency Decentralized Authority of Attica, which processes applications. Having received no response, Chinese citizens decided to go to court demanding compensation for the delay. The problem with the processing of applications is associated with the inability of the Greek bureaucracy to cope with a large flow of applications.

Experts say that the program for obtaining a "golden visa" in Greece does not realize its potential due to bureaucratic problems and a long line of investors (in some areas of the country until mid-2021). From the beginning of its operation until the end of 2019, the program brought the country 2 billion euros, not including payments to tax authorities, notaries, lawyers. The figure could be larger if there was a special agency responsible for the implementation of the investment program. Currently, investors are engaged in ordinary employees of the migration service, in parallel leading refugee affairs.

From the moment the program was launched in 2013 until the end of January 2020, 6692 residence permits were issued for investments, of which: 4714 - to Chinese citizens.
